Dog photographer Mark Le Poidevin greeting his two dogs on a woodland path in Taunton, Somerset

About Me

Hello, I’m Mark

I photograph dogs across Somerset and the South West.

I’ve spent more than 13 years as a paramedic, and it’s taught me a lot about talking to people. If anything goes wrong on a walk, I’ve dealt with much worse, and the weather doesn’t bother me one bit.

I adore dogs, and after the pressure of that job, photographing them is a real joy.

How this started

As a kid, I had a camera my mum and dad bought me for holidays, and for years after that I snapped photos on my phone. It was never anything serious. Then my wife and I went on honeymoon, and I wanted to capture it properly, but my phone wasn’t up to the job.

Back home, my wife bought me a camera as an early Christmas present. I photographed anything in sight, but I kept going back to my two dogs. They were the most interesting thing around, they moved, and they’re very pretty. I was bitten by the bug.

The photo that made me think I could do this professionally was of the two of them, one framed between the other’s legs, looking straight at the lens. I’ve seen so much more of their personality since I started snapping them.

After the walk

Every session gives me thousands of photos to go through, and I love the editing as much as the walk itself. It’s where I see just how many different expressions one dog has. Every photo you get, I’ve chosen and edited myself.

I make sure your dog’s coat colour is right, and I tidy away anything that pulls the eye, like a stray leaf or a bright spot. Photos of you with your dog are usually finished in black and white.
